Making Lemonade at North Ryde

One day we made lemonade. First we had to juice a lot of lemons. To do this the children used a special juicer that you squeeze the lemons and collected the juice in a measuring jug. It took a few tries to squeeze hard enough to make the juice come out of the lemon. This was a great exercise for our fingers and helps practise our gross motor skills.

As the lemons were squeezed we discovered we could smell the juice. We then decided to explore other parts of the lemon we could touch, taste and smell.
We also looked at the different parts of the lemon; the flesh that the juice came from, the skin and the seeds.

Some of the children decided to see what the lemons tasted like by themselves – this exploration lead to the discovery of the difference between sweet and sour!

The markings on the side of the jug told us when there was enough juice.
We then added water and a little bit of sugar and stirred it all together.

The lemonade was so yummy when we drank it up.

After drinking the lemonade we used the juiced lemon halves to create some beautiful paintings.
