Sending Letters from North SydneyA visitor to our centre had an envelope tucked in their bag and a child in our preschool room asked what it was for. The visitor said they were going to post a letter later and asked if the child had ever helped their parents send letters. The child replied ‘no’, and asked where the visitor would put the letter to send it. The visitor then discovered that the child was unaware of process of sending regular mail and a long conversation followed. We decided to follow up on this conversation with a variety of activities that are still occurring. view more The Navy comes to North RydeOne of the preschooler’s mum works in the Navy and she came to visit us. The preschoolers were very excited to meet one of our mummies, and learn about how the Navy protects us. view more Hatching Dinosaur Eggs at North RydeThe preschoolers at North Ryde have been showing a lot of interest in dinosaurs and some of them had asked where they came from? The teachers began a project on Dinosaur Eggs. During this project we made our own eggs out of Papier Mache with baby dinosaur figurines inside. The children helped to make the eggs, understand how to care for any animal eggs we find and how they hatch. view more Learning about Colours at EastwoodChildren love to draw and colour using their imagination. They talk about their favourite colours, use more colours in their drawing and recently started talking about rainbows. To stimulate their interests in colours and further learning, the Joey group did a science experiment about colours to learn primary colours and secondary colours. view more Volcanoes at North Ryde!The preschoolers at North Ryde had shown a lot of interest in volcanoes and some of them had built one in the sand pit. This prompted the teachers to begin a project on volcanoes. The project involved the children making the volcano, understanding and discussing how volcanoes erupt and why they occur. view more Dinosaur Extinction Project at Mona ValeA group of preschoolers at Mona Vale asked the question 'How did dinosaurs become extinct?' This started a discussion and the children came up with a number of theories. They wanted to see if any of these theories were correct and therefore the project was extended so that the children could research further. The following learning experience outlines the process the children developed themselves. view more Making Lemonade at North RydeThe toddlers at North Ryde had shown an interest in food and drink and the ingredients you use and how they are made, so the teachers began a project on food and drink. During this project we made lemonade. The children experienced making lemonade and discussed the ingredients, measurements and how to make it. view more Mother's Day Afternoon Tea PymbleTo celebrate Mother’s day this year the children throughout the centre organized a special afternoon tea for our Mums. Throughout the week the children created fantastic presents and cards, and also planned the activities and food we would provide for the afternoon tea. On the day the centre buzzed with activities as all the rooms cooked delicious food including cupcakes and cookies as well as decorated the centre. view more Mother's Day Morning Tea - RosevilleAll the children in the Roseville centre made beautiful cards, pictures and gifts for their special Mum. Mothers and grandmothers came for a morning tea of scones, lamingtons and fun. It was fantastic to see so many mums join us and the children really enjoyed sharing this time with them all. view more Jungle Jammin' at North SydneyOn April 12th Malin came to Acre Woods North Sydney with his African drums for a fun music experience for all our children and staff. After this, our preschool children made their own instruments and experimented with the sounds they made. view more |
